I bet they're serious about that, because it's exactly why they said "Deadwood" was cancelled. (They later came to an agreement with David Milch to create two additional shows -- two hours each, I think -- to be broadcast next season.
HBO needs some new hits, that's for sure. Several of the hit shows like "Sex and the City" and "Six Feet Under" are over, and "The Sopranos" is down to 8 more episodes. And newer series like "Deadwood", "Carnivale", and "Big Love" have been ratings duds.
