Hi Howard,
guessing from your description here is it that you are actually running the VFP9.exe using the shortcut that was created by the installation routine? If so and you want to set your own "Start in" folder, just create your own shortcut. You can also switch off the default things that start up with VFP9 like the task pane by setting an option somewhere (probably in the task pane itself).
If I've got it wrong, please try to explain the problem again.
