You might find some useful "how to" articles in the Microsoft KnowledgeBase.

Also you might check out the VFP Developer's Guide -- it comes with VFP, so it should not be an added expense for you. Chapter 8 provides details on dealing with views, and Part 6 (ch. 19 - 22) convers client/server. You may not find answers to all of your questions in "das Buch," but at least it is a good (and cheap) place to start.
