Okay, I think that's got it. It wasn't real clear that you could *enter* the name of a *new* named instance, rather than being forced to choose an existing instance. I tried the "named instance" once before, but had chosen my existing instance.

Thanks Sergey -- as usual, you manage to make the most confusing things seem extremely simple (g).
