Dmitry,
I read two reports, one 2 or 3 years ago and the other one not long ago, like 6 months or less. Although the first one agreed with your's and Craig's POV, the second one showed that some hybrids were actually cheaper in the long run. They compared the same vehicle in both versions where possible, for example Honda Civic hybrid and gas (4 or 5 pairs of cars was the article), I will try to find it.
I was shopping for a car last month, and one thing not mentioned here, maybe for it is only applicable here (or the salesman was a liar, what a surprise <g>) is that insurance was cheaper for the Honda Civic Hybrid compared to the regular Civic.
>You are correct. There was an article about it in US World and News Report about a year ago. They clearly showed that the prices for hybrid cars should come down, way down, to make the overall cost of owning less. I think hybrid cars are for rich people to make them feel good, as if they are helping the environment <g>.

>>The increased purchase price of the car over similarly sized all-gas models outweighs the decreased gasoline costs.

>>>Curious. How do you figure that?
