A cleaner method in such situations would be to instantiate the DE first. Either your BaseClasses could handle this or you might use the Form's Load() event.
Though this would require that you define your DE's outside the form/class.

You can have exactly the same control on two forms that just have a different controlsource because they're linked to a different table. If you don't want to use a pre-defined dataenvironment you don't have another option then to set the controlsource in the init event of the form.
