Necessary? No... definitely not, but you have to balance the value that you get from a framework vs. the it would take you to build it. While you may htink that you have all the control, building a good object business framework is not something that happens in a few weeks of coding - it's something that takes quite a bit of time to build the base framework and then test and work out the inevitable issues.
All that said using a third party framework usually has a learning curve so it doesn't come for free either, but learning a framework is something you can do probably in a few days... less if you ony need the core features.
Like everthing in live - it's a trade off <g>..
