I am sure there are organizations out there that treatly developers fairly. (And by "fairly" I mean that they allow their developers to actively participate in setting timelines, and [of course] hold them accountable to them).
But too many companies intentionally stage things so that they can blame developers after the fact. I once confronted such a manager (who frequently told his people that their job was to make him look good) and told him I was aware of it - he was much more concerned with how I "learned" of what he said.
Never again...I'll work for minimum wage at Taco Hell before I become a developer/employee again.
