What if they spawn mute programmers?

You would not believe the conversation my daughters and I had in the car this weekend. I'm not even sure how it came up, probably somehow relating to a trip to the rodeo on their last visit, but Emily said she was still "irritated" at how calves are roped. "They're just babies," she said. (She's the one I am counting on to keep me out of the nursing home). Somehow the conversation went from there to the distinctions between bovines. Who's male, who's female, what difference is there between steers and bulls? Completely different species? Oxen were suggested. Allie, who is the flintier of the two, said "Dad, you always care about stupid stuff like this. Who cares?" Please don't get a wrong opinion about her. When we saw about the third Domino's delivery car on the way to their mom's house I said "Lock the door, it's Domino's." Some of my good lines (IMO) splat and some of the dumb ones connect. Go figure. They both laughed -- it turned out Allie dated a guy who is a Domino's delivery guy -- and Emily in particular thought it was hilarious. "Get a hold of yourself, Emily," Allie said.

Anyway, back to cattle, here is the definition for the benefit of those who weren't sure. Cows: female. Steers: male, castrated. Bulls: male, uncastrated.

Mike (strong like bull, dumb like rock)
