Hey, Mike,

There are many ways to evaluate a QB (and yes, Joe Namath has a ring and Trent Green doesn't!).

The rating system takes passing yards into account. The four factors are:

Completion %
Yards per attempt
TDs per attempt
Interceptions per attempt

KC's offense stretches the field, they are not a conservative offense. If anything, the rating system slightly favors QBs in the West Coast offense, which the Chiefs don't use.

I think Big Ben is a great QB. But let's be real: superior play-calling and coaching are at the top of the list of reasons for the Steelers' incredible run last year. While injuries are part of the game, the Steelers caught a break when Carson Palmer went down.

Out of curiosity, I ran the formula for Namath. I forget which year the Jets won the Super Bowl, but in 1968 and 1969, his ratings were 72.11 and 74.26. Namath revolutionized the game with his "Broadway Joe" image, and he predicted victory.

What's sad about Trent Green is that he's been a strong QB for several years, for a team with an atrocious defense. I have tapes of most of their games dating back several years, and sometimes I watch them during the summer. There's a running joke in the NFL that the KC defense "stands around, waiting for people to run into them". They made minor strides last year, but their two losses at the end of the year to Dallas and the Giants were so ugly to watch.

But anyway, I still think Trent Green is one of the best in the business.
