I didn't use CB or MM, but have used VFE, which is also based on CB. One thing that I noticed is that SetFocusToFirst() happens before the end of the form.init(), which then forces the form to activate before the end of the init - which had some side effects now and then. Check to see if that is the case, and just try to comment that call (if it's there in the original CB, that is).
