very weird - this is my third time posting but it hasn't shown up yet. here goes again.

i just finished reading an interesting article in UTMag - an interview with will hentzen. in the article, he basically states that vfp can do anything that other programs can. cross-platform programming aside, i'm curious if others here who have experience with foxpro and other languages (say C++, VB, Ruby) agree with this. Or, do you find that there are good reasons to use, say C++, instead of VFP? other than enhancing my resume and being able to deal with other peoples code, what would the benefit be of learning VB/C++? I know that other programmers swear by them so i'm curious. i know they've been around longer (at least C and Basic as the precursors) than VFP so maybe that's why they have such an extended following?

i've looked into C++ and don't see why people would use that. i cannot see any GUI creation utility with it. I've learned programming on VFP, so i'm used to simply drawing an object (form, command button, etc) and coding within that. how do people in these non-gui programs deal with it?

hope this makes sense. any comments are welcome, especially from those with experience.
