Thanks Craig.

The Dabo site looks interesting. I'll look at it a bit more later. I also, from your links, saw that the .net book for vfp is available from the msdn site. i think that will help me more than any site to make a decision.

who's kidding who here - i still have a lot (a lot!) to learn about vfp, but as your blog stated it's good to have other languages too (more tools in the toolbox). i know that what i've learned so far will help out a lot.

Ruby looks possibly the most interesting to me, although now knowing that C# can do cross-platform makes it interesting too. I'm assuming programs developed in Visual C# cannot be ported to Linux (ie the language is cross-platform, the GUI tool is not. BTW, I've noticed through my reading that C++ is definitely not RAD.

The issue will be whether i want to learn programming these languages for my resume (if i ever leave my sister's company) or if it will be used to develop programs for clients. If developing programs for clients, then i would go with the easiest that still does what I want (using VFP so far certainly qualifies as it is RAD). Otherwise, I have to look at what's out there now and what will be in the future and learn from there.

Thanks,

Paul
