As long as it's in .activate() and not .init, it shouldn't hurt. The weird flickers and trouble with ActiveX not showing right, and also some bleeding of scrollbars through pageframes used to happen when setfocus() was issued before form.init() was finished. That was in VFP7, though, so this may simply not apply to what you're seeing.
