>My office computer has become very sluggish, to the point that sometimes (not always) clicking on keyboard arrows while browsing a table it has a noticeable pause between fields. This has me scared that it may have a keylogger living inside. I have up-to-date virus software.

Alex,
1) Go to;
http://www.sysinternals.com/ProcessesAndThreadsUtilities.htmland get AutoRuns v8.53 and Process Explorer v10.2. This will show you everything thats running, exe's, dll's, etc. You can investigate these to see whether you think they are ok or not.
Autoruns allows you to verify various files and also hide Microsoft stuff which is the bulk of what it shows. This leaves you with just the non-MS apps which is easier to review.
2) You can also get a copy of Tune Up Utilties at;
http://www.tune-up.com/which will also show you what starts up on your pc and has various optimizations it can apply.
