VS is more impacted by memory than raw CPU speed. You might speed up VS.NET a bit if you don't keep any of the help windows (Index, Dynamic Help, etc.) open. Also, If Server Explorer is visible right from the beginning, that might also slow down VS.NET, in my experience.
