Evan has a good point about the shutter delay, but it's more pronounced on some cameras than others. Try it in the store if you can (and in particular try to find a nook or closet where you can try it in lower light conditions.

And if you with a digital SLR (pricey!), there's no delay at all. They behave just like a 35mm film camera. (I bought my Canon Digital Rebel precisely because I wanted a camera that acted like a camera. <g>)
