No, that is not correct. Buddhism is the only religion (of the big five) that has never had a war fought in its name. There has never been a Buddhist war. That is not to say that a Buddhist has not fought in a war, but they have not done so in the name of, or for, the Buddhist religion.
Zen Buddhism, which had a great influence on Japanese thinking and appealed to the Samurai warrior class, was a way to live by, a way of controlling the mind and, in times of war, to control ones fear. But the Samurai of old, and more recently, did not fight for Buddhism.
It is anathema. You cannot fight a war for Buddhism as it wouldn't make any sense in the context of Buddhism.
