For your typical VFP application, most Fox developers can get by without ever thinking about XML. However, in the rest of the big wide world, speaking as a C# developer, XML is ubiquitous and everywhere. There are so many uses for XML, its hard to list them. However, most .NET jobs I see require the developer to have some degree of experience with XML. This is because formats, messages, data and meta-data are often passed around in an XML format. Yes, its somewhat bulky but, it ties many disparate systems together and as universal.

I really wish I had become familiar with XML whilst I was developing VFP applications. I had to get up to speed really quickly when I moved over to the "dark side" :)
