>>You are one of the lucky ones. I think I may lack just enough of both to keep doing what I'm doing. Of course, I remember vividly 2000 when I couldn't find a job and ended up swinging a hammer for about 20% of what I make now, so I do know that there's much to be thankful for, but man does it ever get old sometimes.

>In following this thread, I have to agree with you. After do this computer gig for over 26 years, it has been getting old and stale. Recently I have been doing automated testing (writing test cases). The fun last, oh, about 6 months. Now I am branded as a Tester. Development position are become more and more scarce for me. I, too, am considering jumping the computer train and fine something else. But what?
But testers get paid a lot! What more could you want than that?! <bg>
Problem I have is that I make a certain amount of money which I need. I didn't use to need it, but now I do. To go and do something that I (think) would enjoy more with a significant pay cut would not really be an option. That leaves me doing what I do for the most part. Jos made an assertion in the thread that I like. It truly could put stuff into perspective. The only issue I see with it is that there are only so many hours in a week after work, sleep and maintenance. Doesn't leave a lot of time for the "big" stuff.
