No, I haven't really. But OTOH, these were WW II weapons - M1 rifles & m/c carbines that the US took. I don't know how many bullets YOU'VE heard whizzing just past your ears, or landing in the surf next to you, butr that must have been SOME hardcore miklitary traing you got!
Also, one could hardly hear the German m/c guns from all the way up the cliffs when one's floundering in the surf.
Loved Platoon, but here we're talking opening scenes.
