>>>The most awesome opening scene in a movie:
>>>
>>>The Matrix Reloaded - where Carrie-Anne Moss rides the bike off the roof and drops it into the guard room. 10/10 ...

>>>That one was good - but for me, the opening scene of Calligula just gets me every time. ;)

>>The Andy McDowell Caligula? I haven't seen that since the 70s - and can't say I'd be much bothered to - but can't recall a stunning opening. What was it? (all I can remember is that the film was very bawdy and that some guys were buried up to their necks in sand and a huge juggernaut, with ground-level spinning blades, came along and either chopped their heads off or crushed them

>Surely you mean Malcolm McDowell? There is an American actress named Andie MacDowell but "Caligula" was well before her time.

DOH! Yes! She from "Four Weddings ... " and L'Oreal ads :-) I'm terrible at mixing up surnames/forenames when there are famous people with either/both.

Anyway, you knew what I meant, that it obviously wasn't Andie. So you meant that film? What was the opening sequence?

Isn't it funny that as soon as you mentioned this film, someone came up with the opening of Gladiator, which had sprung to my mind when i saw your post.
