We are still persisting with that silly excel sheet but finally we have started working on a tool (written in VFP) that will automate the process - assuming we ever get the chance to finish it. :-)

That said, we have decided that this new code management tool - that will completely replace the project manager and intergrate with an SCM tool of some kind (TBA) - will manage the files (VCX, PRG, SCX, etc.) on disk and handle the project files. But we have decided that all the files stored in the code repository will be stored as text files and the new tool will handle the conversion from the text format to the VFP format. That way we can use the SCM features such as comparisons, merging, etc.

Also the baseline files will be one file per component (Procedure, Function, Class, etc.) and the tool will recombine them into the class libraries or procedure files that the project expects.

I must say that the biggest issue we face is code management. Having 20 developers working on numerous shared components scheduled for different monthly releases of the system is the biggest complication we have to deal with.

Hopefully in a few weeks we will have something that can help us address this problem and if we do... I feel an article of some kind coming on :-)
