So, assuming an 8-hour day, that makes some 26 days "extra holiday"?

In the UK we have "statuatory sick leave", in that, if I recall correctly, someone can be off sick for up to 6 months before their boss can start deducing they're not up to the job and sack them, or at least "sick pay" stops. But we don't have the concept of a catch-all day off. People do take "sickies", esp. when they've a hangover (or a golf tournament?), and phone in with a phoney sick voice.

>I get 208 hours per year, and can accrue up to 312. After that, they are lost. I've never had that problem. :-) They can be used for everything and nobody cares really. Usually if it's not sick time, it's preferred that you schedule it ahead of time and get approval, but who's to say that I don't make myself sick playing golf sometimes? <g>

>>>Common now is PTO (Personal Time Off) which can be used for anything. Vacation, sick, whatever. This is aside from holidays.
