Sayin Metin -

I agree most people in the West have very limited knowledge of the Muslim world - and the differences within it. I also think part of the problem is that very bad leadership has made the situation worse for most of the Muslim world.

I only wish more of the Muslim world would followthe example of the Turks and of the brilliant Kemal Attaturk ! Turkey has always tried to join the best of Western thought with the best of Islam. Of course, none of us is perfect, and of course Turkey has problems, too. But the progress in Turkey has been steady and Turkey has a very special position in the world.

I know if more Americans understood Turkey they would have a better understanding of some of the problems for people in the Muslim world and also see some of the solutions that have made Turkey a success.

Muslims are as different as Christians or Buddhists. Much depends on national culture.

Much of my heart will always be in your country and with its wonderful people.

>>Yes, I wish more muslims (and non-muslim arabs) members of UT would express their opinions about american politics, Israel, arab world, terrorism, etc, here on UT.

>maybe they worry about your prejudices. West-world really don't want or can't understand the others...

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
