>Drunk drivers kill 40,000 people a year in this country. Doctors kill 100,000. Why worry about a few people? Is it the number of deaths or the way in which one dies that is of concern?

>I would think that it is a God given right to kill people while intoxicated or if you are a doctor. That is a conclusion that I reached during 1968 during the Vietnam War. Some people are appalled at the number of deaths due to a military action we are involved with but could care less about other sources of death, which should be preventable.

>If you are in the military the man says, “Take that hill boy”! You respond or else!

>No one tells a driver, “Get drunk and kill someone with your car”! And no one tells a doctor, to be careless and kill a patient today! Some things are a matter of choice and others are not.

This is exactly the irony of the hoo-ha over Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic comments after being pulled over for a DUI recently. Most of the news coverage focused on those comments and others he made after being arrested. Not that they were not offensive comments, but they pale in comparison to the fact that he got behind the wheel drunk. It's fortunate no one was killed.
