Hi, Dirk, and thanks for the reply.

Hmmm. Well, this is a driving-distance calculation, where the result is being
used to calculate the cost of shipping a given item. I'm not really sure if
a point-to-point approach would be accurate enough for our customers, being
that they are shipping large, expensive pieces of equipment for long distances,
and as we all know, direct, point-to-point distances can be a lot shorter than
driving distances. For this reason alone, I've been searching for a public domain
database that includes road lengths and whatnot. Should I find something pubically
available (probably from some type of government GIS project), I'll let everyone
know. Not only that, I'll have to set up the database table and hack the code for
the calculation, so I'll make sure that I post the code here, along with the
table.

>we have a function that will calculate the distance with the GPS coordinates.

Kewlness. Long/Lat is a nice way to go.

Anywho, Dirk, thanks for the info. Very informing, and I'll ask the powers
that be if estimation via point-to-point calculation is good enough. Maybe
I'll get lucky :^).

Best Regards,

Randall

I eat spaghetti code out of a bit bucket while sitting at a hash table! Someone
asked me if I needed salt, and I said, "I'm not into encryption." :^)
