THe only outages I've ever seen are when extremely heavy rain moves through, and that's only for 10-15 minutes. Unlike cable, which would go out for many hours. Frequently.
That may be a little outdated. I have had Comcast for several years and their reliability has improved dramatically since the early days (since it was AT&T Broadband). It's very rare for it to go out now, maybe a couple times a year.
