I grew up in a small Quebec town and French was the huge majority language (95+%). My sister, who was 4 when we left to Montreal spoke mainly French at that time.
We moved to an English part of Montreal, and by the time she got to grade 3, where French teaching started then, she had forgotten every word. Sadly.
