One of those stung me when I was a child, in Beni / Bolivia. I must have been in bed for a few days - I don't remember the details too well. It hurts a lot - grown men are said to have committed suicide.

Probably a different species - the BBC site mentioned 70 different species.

Them rays bury in the mud or sand in rivers, and if someone happens to step on them... well, it is no surprise if they get angry.
