>>>>>>Speaking of great British comedies, there's a good one running Saturday nights (right after Rosemary & Thyme and Python remix) - "Red Dwarf". I never thought anyone would ever be able to put up a good SF comedy, but this one has me bowling of laughter.

>>>>>Totally agree! You only just getting that. I think they did c. 6 series and they get better towards the middle series.

>>>>>>nb. I had a dispute with one of the daughters on "But HGTTG is a comedy", where I argued that HGTTG is first and foremost a full scale SF novel, which is funny all the way, but has all the plausibility of serious SF work. It's, IMO, much more than just a comedy.

>>>>>If you're saying this about Red Dwarf - exactly, but I don't understand what "HGTTG" is ???

>>>Ah, but Red dwarf features some very clever SF stories, such as time travel paradoxes, the crew meeting other dimension versions of themselves, time dillation, etc. etc. - very respectable stories but FUNNY!!
>>
>>Sure, and that's what I think makes it so funny - and the dispute wasn't about that, but rather about The Guide.

>Aye, I understood that. I wasn't too struck with HGTTG - too many "pan-Galactic ..." and "mega ..." prefixes in it. The TV series anyway (bit dated now) (and the original BBC Radio 4 production whence it came). I read all the books though. Was very disappointed to see they made a major film of it, and with an American Ford Prefect (that was an old Ford UK model, back in the 50s/60s BTW),and had no intentioon of seeing it.
So did you see it ? I thought it was pretty good. A lot better than the tv series.
