I've read some statistics to the contrary. It's not the availability of the targets, it's the ease of penetration. The glaring example is the Apache web server vs IIS. Apache is more widespread than IIS, but still most of the web server viruses (counted by number of strains AND by number of infections) hit IIS. AFAIR, the ratio was more than 10:1.
