Also as other pointed out it's usually better to do one insert rather than replace and append (AFAIK there was a thread here recently on this issue). And definitely it's better to have one replace for all fields than each field individual replace. You'll see the difference if you have triggers or record rules.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
