There is a jazz FM station here in Toronto called (appropriately) Jazz-FM. Anyway one of the DJs is Amanda Martinez. She does the latin jazz show Sunday afternoons, and I can't begin to express how much I love to hear her say the names of the songs. Spanish is (imho), one of the most beautiful languages in use today. I wish I could speak and understand it, but unfortunately, while I may have no idea where my strengh lies, I do know that it's not in learning other languages.

>That's not an American accent that is a Southern accent! :o) Your comment reminds me of my bestfriend. She is from Chicakamauga, GA and we were stationed in Panama together. She read and spoke Spanish very well but could not get rid of that Georgia mountain accent no matter what. All of the locals loved to hear her speak Spanish or English - they didn't care which one as long as she spoke! :o)

>>>That seems to be quite common with learning a foreign language. When I was stationed in Germany I knew several American soldiers who could understand German reasonably well but who could hardly speak at all. I also knew serveral Germans who understood English but couldn't speak it.

>>>I seem to be the only person I know who has the reverse problem. I can read French well enough to follow a newspaper or magazine, but probably not a book. I can speak it well enough to be understood (once you get past my New York City accent). But I can only understand the language when I hear it spoken with an American accent.

>>You mean like, "S'il vous plait, y'all"?
