I would appreciate feedback from anyone who deals with EDI.

Our company has been parsing EDI messages passed on from a system called 'GE Desktop' for many years. We parse many flavors of documents from many trading partners for our client.

The desktop product:
- Provides some initial validation that the inbound and outbound document is a correctly formed EDI document
- Sends acknowledgements to trading partners for inbound documents that are received (whether compliant or not)
- allows for some scheduling (for instance one document type must be sent several minutes after a related document that is generated at the same time)
- Keeps some logs that need to be manually viewed by digging through their interface
- Sends documents to our parsing routines
- Sends out outbound documents (if they don't fail validation)to VANs, FTP, etc. specific to each trading partner

The particular client receives about 2000 documents a day and we have some problems with the product:
-It doesn't send notifications of problems to administrators
-It occassionally hiccups and sends the same inbound doc through the process more than once
-Status and log reporting is pretty much non-existent

Our programs parse a flat file delimited by asterisks.

Someone on our staff has been researching products to take over from the desktop product. They all seem like major overkill with more complications and features than we need such as complex mapping tools and tools to move data directly to multiple types of back ends. We are already handling the mapping and parsing the data. We are looking for more stability and better reporting. Does anyone know of a simpler product that can handle this? (We are deciding if we should just code the whole thing ourselves so we don't have to deal with a separate product.)

Thanks,
Abby
