  • Laura Ingals Wilder, "Little House in the Big Woods" (and subsequent books from the same series, about 8 or 9 in total)

    >>>>Oh, I know the TV series was only loosely based on the books, esp. as there were more episodes than any one person could possibly write books (well, esp. back in those days - without word processors), and esp. after it got all a bit too "religeous" and far-fetched, due, I suspect, to the influence of Michael Landon, with "miracles" and stuff.

    >>>What do you mean "without word processors"? A number of published writers (a surprising number to me) still write their books in longhand or on typewriters. And the lack of computer power didn't seem to slow Charles Dickens or Alexandre Dumas down much, to name only two examples.

    >>I mean, if you wrote a page, then found you had to alter/add/whatever paragraph(s) in the middle thereof, you were rubber ducked (rhyming slang). Yes your mentioned authors were prolific, but I don't think they could have matched the scrip-writing teams of what seemed like 30 years of Little House.

    >>BTW, have you been on the angry pills again, cos you're very negative today? :-)

    >No, not at all. (What did I say that was negative?) I just didn't get your point, and still don't. You espoused a technologist's POV and I responded that whether it makes sense or not, many prolific writers do not use word processors.

What I mean was my comment was about how the hell many of these schmalzy episodes were written (and Laura was probably spinning in her grave when they went on just too long). Technologist's POV- schmov - it was merely a generalisation, a comment on the programme, and not meant to engender a debate on how many past authors managed without WPs.

Now then, I can't find the other piece by you, not on this thread, but I just got the feeling you were in an argumentative mood yesterday. No biggie.
