John;

I think that it would be a great idea. Remember the FoxPro 2.6 days and all the books that were published for many levels of expertise? I am sure that those books were a great help to many. Perhaps if a beginner’s book were made available it would improve the sales of Visual FoxPro.

Another thing about books going back to dBase II, as an example: When books were first being published concerning database programming using a PC, they were full of meat and no potatoes! Even books published such as Codebook 2.0 were lean and mean!

Then when FoxPro 2.5 came out it seems that most books were sold by weight. The more words used the more that was charged. 1500 page books became almost the norm. I felt that my money was well spent if I could find one concept that I needed from any book I purchased. One concept per book seemed to be the norm. The rest of those books were just too wordy!

I would suggest a format taking into account the important basics with one or two examples of code and the concepts behind the examples. Why use Private Data Sessions, what are PEM’s and how are they used? What is the order of events?

This might be a project that many could be a part of. Perhaps a series of short books would be best? Then you have to find a publisher and marketing! Now where is Whil Hentzen? :)
