Hi,
>The letter ğ is silent between back vowels in Modern Turkish, but was formerly pronounced as a voiced velar fricative [ɣ] and still retains this pronunciation in some eastern dialects.
What's a 'voiced velar frictive'? Is it like the scottish 'ch' in 'loch'? In that case an english spelling of 'yoghurt' would be more likely to give the original pronounciation....
Regards,
Viv
