No you aren't dreaming. I bought my friend a new brand acer:
-new type celeron cpu (it's a cutted centrino actually)
-has internet wireless, bluetooth, pcmcia socket
-can run xp (it has a linux, you have to buy xp)
-40 gb hdd
-dvd-rom cd-rw combo
-it was light and thin
-screen was a good 14"
-battery life was good because of it's centrino based celeron.

you can buy car socket either.

we bought that at 530$

I'm sure you can find better prices in dream country... :)
