It's not so much the dark, as the noise.
The last one, in Aug 1999, 2 days after my 2nd daughter was born (she was nearly named Corona, or Penumbra - thought better of "String of Pearls" :-) ) it didn't go exactly dark, but all the seagulls who nest on bearby roofs and around the city thought it was time for their evening squawk :-)
