Actually it depends on the size of the append, that is how many records are being added. At 100,000 you are near the turning point of where your approach(remove indexes and rebuild them later) is faster. Since you are near the switching point you should really try it both ways to find out which is faster.

If you were talking about 500,000 records appended then I would say with pretty good confidence that your way is fastest.
