Some years ago a couple was arrested for sending their children out into an intersection to take money and gifts from people. I had seen them several times, as they hung out near my regular skating trail. They had a boy and a girl, probably 4-7 age range. The kids were grubby but cute, and who's heart wouldn't go out to a family in such need? Once they had a paper bag full of groceries with a stuffed animal peeking out of the top, obviously given to them by some caring soul.
Turned out that they had a decent apartment and working car, and were basically professional panhandlers. I dismember what became of them, but I think CPS took the kids.
