Many of the Texas "blue laws" were repealed in the 1970's. IIRC most stores still closed on Sunday, but one major chain finally said to hell with it, and stayed open. Texas decided not to prosecute, and that was that.

In 1984, I went to Kansas for an auction. At the end of the day, I wanted to have a cold one, so I stopped at a hotel that had a bar. After asking the bartendress for a Bud, she asked if I was a member of their club. Expecting to be hit up for a few bucks, I said no, and asked what the requirements were. She pulled out a ledger, told me to write down my name, and then handed me a beer. That was it.

Blue laws are so weird.
