Actually the likelihood may come from their religious affiliation. It's a known fact that most religions, and Christianity in particular, impose a certain sexual discipline upon their members, and proscribe the behavior. This may not sit well with most of the people, but they may submit to this discipline because they believe. However, this creates a conflict within the person - and the numerous ways to compensate for it are also known.
What does this have to do with party affiliation? Well, the GOP is the party where strong (or at least loud) religious stand can get you higher in the hierarchy.
