They must have really done some other translactions that I wasn't aware of. Last time I looked, their payroll was about 45mil. May have been 2 years ago ago, right after they had beaten the Yankees for the WS. Insane!

>In 2006, the Florida Marlins have the lowest payroll in MLB, with a total team salary of 14.3 million.
>
>In the same season, the Yankees have five players with salaries higher than the entire salary of the Marlins....and 11 players making 7 figures...

>1. Alex Rodriguez 25,680,727
>2. Derek Jeter 20,600,000
>3. Jason Giambi 20,428,571
>4. Mike Mussina 19,000,000
>5. Randy Johnson 15,661,427
>6. Bobby Abreu 13,600,000
>7. Johnny Damon 13,000,000
>8. Hideki Matsui 13,000,000
>9. Jorge Posada 12,000,000
>10. Gary Sheffield 10,756,171
>11. Mariano Rivera 10,500,000

>The second lowest team payroll belongs to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, with a payroll of 35.4 million. So the Marlins are the only team with a total payroll less than A-Rod and other Yankee players.
>
>And what's disgusting about all this - the Marlins are going to finish with about 77-78 victories. And Joe Girardi will reportedly be fired at the end of the season. For a team that's only been in the league for 14 seasons, they have quite a history. They've only made the playoffs twice, but won the world series both times.
