Perry,

When I visited Christ Church back in 2000, I had trouble getting a hotel room because they were having a big convention of tourist agencies, trying to improve NZ's changes of becoming a vacation stop. How do you think that campaign worked how?

Not really my area- but tourism is a huge $-earner for NZ. 11,000 tourists visited from the US in August compared to ?70,000 from Australaia and 7,000 from China. The concept of Chinese consumers taking a vacation abroad should not be ignored. ;-) NZ cities continue to be very highly rated as tourist destinations and as the place people would most like to live. I quite like parts of Europe and the US myself (isn't the LA weather lovely today!).
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
