I would say it usually depends on what you want to do and how much time you want to spend on it. VFP's report writer is ok and so are Crystal reports and FoxFire. Each product has their strength and weaknesses.

So, depending on what you want to achieve choose the right product. You might want to consider HTML as an outcome of report. This way you can drive the outputs to the browser and users can print from then on.

Web-Connect is a good tool here. I'm not talking about a web-site but you could easly use to to generate reports and users can see it from their browser.

Make the decision depending on 80% of mostly what your reports would be doing. The other 20% could be customized.
