Even though some OS provide for long filenames, others do not (most, if not all, versions of Novell for one). Consider making all filenames in the 8.3 format for any file that would be individually placed on such servers. Of course you can still provide and use longer, more descriptive, table names in the DBC. Forms, classes, and other files that would be compiled into an APP or EXE would have no problems having long filenames.
