My favorite beer story is about when the NFL first decided to scramble their tv signals and have people pay to watch all the games on satellite. They attemped in 91, I think, to scramble all the games 2 weeks before the start of the season. But the tv package wouldn't be available till 92. So for 1 yr, you wouldn't be able to watch any games other then the standard tv games.

I was living in San Diego at the time. There was a small hotdog stand run by a guy who immigrated to SD from Chicago. He had one of those oldtime big satellite dishs so he could show Bear games at his stand. He also happened to be president of some type of restaurant/bar owner organization.

A couple days after the NFL game out with their plan, and demonstrating their determination to stick to the plan, the hotdog stand owner came up with a plan.

He had all the members of his organization call up their local Bud distributor that day, or the next. And have a conversation with them similar to "You know, on a sports weekend I normally go thru 300 cases of budweiser. But when there's no sports on, I only go thru 30 cases. And since we can't show football anymore in the bar, I'll have a really small crowd this weekend. So go ahead and cancel my order for the weekend.

I think all told about 300,000 case orders were cancelled in the 2 day period. Next thing you know, Anheiser Bush is on the phone to NFL headquarters asking for a meeting. Needless to say, the NFL decided not to scramble the signal that yr. And waited until next yr when they came up with the plan for the NFL package on DirectTv.

>>I'm hoping less than $1,000, but if it's for 4 weeks it's probably more. Maybe I can drive a beer truck instead...

>I drove a beer truck one summer. Just a small delivery van type of mostly specialty beers. Usually only a couple of cases per stop, but I may have had 50-75 stops per day. The truck could only handle about 400 cases total, so it wasn't too bad, though some of the establishments wanted the beer stored in some pretty odd places.

(On an infant's shirt): Already smarter than Bush
