I havn't worked with AS/400 but this is getting interesting. If I understand correctly this is your situation.

You created remote views and opened them with NoDataOnLoad, then you specified your paramaters as private variables and issued a REQUERY() and got an error. When you run the same SQL with single quotes instead on double it works.

Are you using the LIKE instead of = in your WHERE condition and adding a % sign at the end of your view parameter?
